During the 1930/31 season, the club embarked on a giant-killing cup run that saw them beat Derby County, Leeds United and Bury on their way to the quarterfinals. After drawing 1-1 with Sunderland at Roker Park, the Grecians were finally defeated at home in front of 20,894 spectators; a record that remains to this day.
