Portsmouth v ECFC (L 2-1)
Scorer: Hetherington
Attendance: 24,000

Good Friday at Fratton Park.
Exeter City were desperately keen on achieving some success in their important match at Fratton Park on Good Friday afternoon.
Great interest was taken in the contest, and there was a crowd of 24000 spectators present. The weather was brilliantly fine and warm, and the ground in perfect order.

Portsmouth
Robson. Probert. Knight. Brown. Harwood. Martin. Thompson. Stringfellow. Cherrett. Leavey. Beedie.

Referee:- Mr E.E. Small, of Bristol.

Exeter City
Pym. Coleburne. Feebery. Crawshaw. Carrick. Green. Appleton. Makin. Shields. Hetherington. Dockray.

The game opened at great pace. Exeter thanked Pym foe winning the toss, as it gave them the advantage of the sun on their backs.
The Grecians had the better of the opening exchanges, for every man appeared to be on top of his form in the early part of the game. The forwards were positively brilliant, and were strongly supported by Crawshaw, Carrick and Green. Frequent and emphatic were the expressions of approval by the huge crowd. Martin was the strength of the Pompey team at this period, his strong quick play averting danger time and time again.
But despite their unquestioned superiority, the City fell into arrears after 20 minutes, the scorer of this goal being the new Pompey forward from Boscombe, Percy Cherrett. He was fed with a lovely long pass by Harwood, and before ever a City player could get near, swung round and beat Pym with an unstoppable shot from 15 yards, the ball curling beyond the reach of the City goalkeeper and striking the net close to the far upright.

Equaliser thoroughly Earned
Five minutes before the interval Exeter equalised, a point that was thoroughly earned on the run of play. A sharp forward move saw Shields attempt s break through but the ball bounced the wrong way. It glided from his head to Hetherington, who snapped up his chance joyfully, beating Robson pointless with a finely judged low shot into the corner.
The game continued, even and sparkling, until the half-time interval, which arrived with the scores level at one-all.

Second Half.
A brilliant City attack resulted in the ball flashing across in front of the Pompey goal, and Dockray, with a tremendous shot, drove the leather against the crossbar. The rebound was gathered by Makin, whose shot cannoned off an opponent, and the City, who were excelling all round, pressed persistently.
Midway through the second half Portsmouth set up there biggest assault of the afternoon. The ball crossed the Exeter goal from the right and was middled again by Beedie, who dropped it right at Cherrett's toes. The centre-forward, who had missed one or two gilt edge openings, made no mistake this time, and Pym had no hope of saving.

Full-time: Portsmouth 2-1 Exeter City.

Reserve Match.
Exmouth United 0-3 Exeter City Reserves.
The Exeter City Reserves proved a big attraction at Exmouth on Good Friday afternoon, when they played the "Cockles's United".
There was good "gate," and the funds of the United Club will benefit considerably. Mr. Lawrence, of Budleigh Salterton, was in charge of the game, and the teams were:-

Exmouth United:-
Budd. Avery. Warmington. Coles. Axon. Miller. Clarbull. Smith. Rose. Weisman. Carnall.

City Reserves:-
Charles. Pollard. Betteridge. Lakin. Taylor. Hilton. McIntyre. Mogridge. Hesmondhalgh. Brayshaw. Kelland.

After a sharp spasmodic effort by United the Reserves took up the attack in earnest and a corner resulted. From McIntyre's kick Budd was challenged, and in trying to clear he allowed the ball to be forced into the net.
Hesmondhalgh quickly added the second goal, shooting home from McIntyre's centre.
Budd was loudly cheered in the second half for many brilliant saves, but was eventually beaten by McIntyre, the City Reserves thus winning by 3 goals to none.
