Attendance: 8,000

Goalkeepers Unbeaten At St James's Park.

There was a typical end-of-the-holiday atmosphere  about the match at St James's Park, and an almost colourless game ended in a goalless draw.

Exeter City
Pym. Coleburne. Feebery. Taylor. Carrick. Green. Appleton. Makin. Shields. Vowles. Dockray.

Referee:- Mr E.E. Small, of Bristol.

Portsmouth
Robson. Probert. Abbott. Brown. Harwood. Martin. Thompson. Stringfellow. Cherrett. Leavey. Beedie.

Shields had a grand chance of scoring in the first minute., but drove the ball against the post, whence it rebounded into play.
Late in the game Robson saved brilliantly from Vowles, and on another occasion a shot from Feebery was headed out from beneath the crossbar by Probert. These were the only occasions on which Exeter City appeared likely to score.

Although the City had their fair share of the play after the interval it was mainly thanks to the goalkeeping of Pym that they managed to save a point. Portsmouth were the more aggressive side, and Cherrett and Leavey should have won the game for them in the last minute, but they hesitated, and Pym took the ball from them. Coleburne was injured but played on, though limping badly.
