BOSCOMBE v. EXETER CITY
Saturday, September 15th.
Referee:- Mr F.Todman, Croydon.
Attendance:- 6,000.
Half-time:- Boscombe 0 City 0.
Boscombe: Heron; Wingham, Lamb; Butt, Smith, Voisey; Miller, Lister, Davey, Armstrong, Robinson.
City: Bailey; Coleburne, Charlton; Murray, Hunter, Gilchrist; Matthews, Kirk, Davis, Lowson, Dockray.
DESCRIPTION
The Exeter City team left Queen Street station at 9 o'clock this morning, and were due at Bournemouth West at two o'clock. Unfortunately, however, delay on the Somerset and Dorset Railway resulted in their arriving 55 minutes late. Taxis were waiting, and with great hustle the team reached Dean Court with only ten minutes to spare. The City played in white shirts, to avoid the clash of colours, Bournemouth keeping the red and white stripes. The weather was dull, but fine, and the ground was dry but rather on the rough side.
Hunter won the toss, but there was no perceptible advantage, and after a minute or so of midfield play a lovely forward pass from Lowson to Matthews enabled the winger to put in a sudden surprise shot which hit the outside of the upright and travelled over the goal line.
Charlton's Intervention.
A brief stoppage for attention to Kirk's knee was followed by a perfect pass from Hunter to Dockray. Gilchrist, taking over the winger's pass, dropped the ball across the Boscombe goal, but it was too hard and too high for Matthews, who could not prevent it going over the line.
Smart work by Coleburne and Hunter held up a dangerous attack in the City goalmouth, but Boscombe opened up the game with long swinging passes, and from Lister's centre Davey ballooned the ball high over the bar. Lister looked like causing trouble, but was shouldered off the ball by Hunter. Boscombe continued to carry the play forward, however, and a sharp header by Lister must have opened the scoring but for Charlton's intervention, the City back jumping to head the ball clear from underneath the crossbar.
Second Half.
Gilchrist shot wide from a free kick, and a corner by Dockray was cleared. A diversion was caused when Davey and Lister sent Miller away in midfield. The winger's centre was fisted up in the air by Bailey, and Murray completed the clearance.
Eight minutes from the end Boscombe scored, amid tremendous excitement. All five forwards combined in a clever movement, with Davey applying the finishing touch. It was Boscombe's first win at home in the Third Division, and Exeter were indebted mainly to Coleburne and Charlton for keeping the score down to one goal.

CITY RESERVES 1-3 YEOVIL & PETTERS UTD
Details
Referee: Mr H.F.Curtis.
Half-time:-
City Reserves 1 Yeovil 2.
City Reserves:- Pavey; Pollard, Flynn; Batten, Whelan, Potter; Lievesley, Gallogley, Wray, Shelton, Lendon.
Yeovil:- Vallis; Watts, Brown; Abbott, Thompson, Gregory; Garner, Warren, Pidgeon, Hayward, Bruzas.
Description
Hayward shot behind from Bruzas's centre, but the referee gave a corner, which was safely cleared by Flynn. A neat pass by Wray enabled Lendon to cut in and beat Vallis with a fast left-footer, but after Pavey had saved shots by Hayward and Pidgeon he was beaten by Gregory. Gallogley strove hard to get the Reserves on the move, but he lacked support, and at length Hayward scored for Yeovil after Pavey had parried his first shot.
For a foul by Pidgeon on Pavey the City were given a penalty, but Flynn's kick was saved by Vallis. Yeovil were next awarded a penalty for a foul by Pavey, and Watts scored. In the last minute of play another penalty was awarded the City when Gallogley was fouled, and once again Vallis made a brilliant save from Flynn's kick.

CITY RESERVES V ABERAMAN
Wednesday, September 19th.
CITY RESERVES 4 Batten 2 Kirk Lievesley
ABERAMAN Bishop
Played at St James's Park, Exeter.
Reserves:- Pavey; Pollard, and Whelan; Murray, Gilchrist, and Potter;
Lievesley, Kirk, Batten, Lowson, and Shelton.
Aberaman:
Reed; Brady, and Carabin; Pillinger, Manuel, and Simpson; Bishop, Finn, Rutherford, Young, and Callaghan.
DESCRIPTION
Great disappointment was felt by the crowd at St. James's Park this afternoon when it became known that Edmondson, the new centre forward from Swansea Town, would be unable to lead the Reserves' attack in the Southern League match with Aberaman. It appeared that Mr Bradshaw, the secretary of the Swansea club, has been away for the week-end. He wired Exeter City today that he had posted off the forms relating to Edmondson's transfer last night. Had the papers reached St James's Park by 2 o'clock this afternoon Edmondson would have been able to play, but unfortunately they were not to hand at the time of the kick-off. Batten appeared at centre-forward, as a result, and this was the only change from the advertised side.
A SHOWERY AFTERNOON:
There were 1,000 spectators when the teams lined up. It turned out to be a showery afternoon and the ground was soaked, but in a good condition otherwise. The visitors wore light blue shirts with white sleeves and collars and white knickers. Pollard won the toss, and the City, facing the railway end, had the breeze behind them in the opening period. Exeter pressed from the start, and Reed saved twice from Kirk in the opening minute. However, there was no power behind the shots. Murray sent Kirk away again with a fine pass, but "Jazzo," with Batten waiting unmarked, attempted to beat Carabin in a solo effort and lost the ball.
When Aberaman made a sudden raid Pavey jumped and punched out a dangerous ball from Manuel.Batten copied Kirk's error in the next minute, allowing himself to be robbed in possession right in front of the Welsh goal. From the resulting clearance Aberaman got away at speed, and Rutherford won applause for a fine low shot which Pavey did well to save.
GOOD PLAY BY THE HALF BACKS
Exeter took the lead after a quarter of an hour, good play by the half-backs ending in Lievesley placing the ball in front of the Aberaman goal for Batten to find the net with a neat header. Exeter toyed with the opposition in the ensuing play, and Batten went through from a pass by Potter, but shot over the bar.
Aberaman were outclassed in midfield, but stuck to their guns, and stout defensive work by Brady and Carabin, and fine goalkeeping by Reed deprived the Grecians of further success until about eight minutes before the interval Kirk sprinted past all opposition, and steered the ball past Reed, who had come out in the hope of saving.
With a minute to go for half-time Aberaman made a sudden raid, and a centre from Bishop slipped through Pavey's hands and rolled into the net.
Half-time:
City Reserves 2 Aberaman 1.
SECOND HALF
Aberaman showed greatly improved form after the interval, and on several occasions had the City goal in jeopardy. Rutherford was an enterprising leader and was well supported by Bishop and Finn.
Midway through the half Reed made a fine save under the bar from Gilchrist.
The Reserves went ahead again, and Batten netted the third goal following a clever bit of work by Lievesley, while a few minutes afterwards Lievesley himself scored.
