DESCRIPTION
Play had been in progress for fifteen minutes when the City won a corner on the right. Matthews placed the flag kick directly to Kirk, who headed the ball across the goalmouth. Dockray saw his chance and jumped for it, hitting the ball hard and true with his cranium so that it flashed over Gibbon's hands and into the net. Luton equalised ten minutes before half-time, Kerr rushing the ball through following a centre by Danskin and a header by Hoten.
Twelve minutes before the end of the match Anderson turned the ball into touch in midfield. Dockray pounced on the leather, and threw it in before the Luton defence could take position. It was passed on by Edmondson to Kirk, who was fouled in the penalty area, and had to be assisted from the field for treatment. From the goal line he watched Matthews beat Gibbon with a perfectly placed low spot kick, and derived such benefit from the spectacle that his injury was forgotten, and he positively bounced back into action again.
The match was packed with excitement from beginning to end, and the football lacked nothing in determination from either side.

DESCRIPTION
Exeter City had a sporting chance of making Soccer history this afternoon at Home Park in their final tie with Plymouth Argyle for the Devon Professional Football Championship. The Grecians so far have been unable to defeat the Pilgrims in any match during the last four seasons.
For today's contest Exeter City relied on the team which beat Luton Town with the solitary exception that Coleburne was played at right back instead of Pollard. The Argyle selected the defence which held Watford last Saturday but made several changes in the attack and at half-back.
Hunter won the toss and the Argyle started, facing the wind. Exeter pressed, and Kirk missed narrowly with a swift header. The Argyle took the lead after fifteen minutes when Batten's centre was turned into the Exeter goal by Murray, otherwise Bailey could have cleared easily. This set-back roused the Grecians, and they attacked persistently. Craig saved shots from Edmondson, Kirk, and Gallogley.com Edmonds
Fowler shot over the bar when Jack gave him a fine opening, and the Argyle, like Exeter, found the greasy ball difficult to control. Gallogley skimmed the crossbar with a tremendous drive from twenty yards, and Edmondson drove the ball against the upright. Shortly before the interval Batten scored for Plymouth.
Murray strained his groin during the first half and the City had ten men for the remainder of the game.
