EXETER CITY 1 QUEEN'S PARK RANGERS 2.
Last Season: City 0 Rangers 1.
Len Southway was selected to play right half for Exeter today, but was unable to turn out through having bruised a cartilage in Thursday's match at Merthyr, and Coopland was chosen instead. The attack now included Kirk, and the rearrangement of the line meant that Dockray had to be left out.
The sun was shining brightly as the teams entered the field, before an attendance of about four thousand spectators. The toss for choice of ends was won by Queen's Park Rangers, and Crockford set the ball in motion towards St James's Road.
CITY:
Pavey; Pollard, and Flynn; Coopland, Mitton, and Crompton; Matthews, Kirk, Crockford, Davis, and Shelton.
RANGERS:
Hill; Watson, and Bain; Chandler, Vigrass, and Gregory; Butler, Davis, Parker, Gardner, and Edgley.
REFEREE: Mr E.E.Small, of Bristol.
The Grecians began very well, but though they were dangerous on a number of occasions could not break through. Then a fine shot by Parker gave the Exeter supporters a fright, but it was a "flash in the pan," and after six minutes' play Kirk passed to Jack Davis, who scored with a shot that Hill knew little about.
Queen's Park speeded up their game, but without much cohesion among their forwards, and very soon Kirk and Matthews were at it again. When the Rangers attacked Parker was given offside.
Coopland and Crockford both missed narrowly with good shots, and Exeter certainly deserved their lead at the interval, 1 goal to 0.
Play was ragged on the resumption, and it was the Rangers who got going first. Exeter's best chance fell to Crockford, but after running through in masterly style he shot straight at Hill.
The City lost their lead after seventeen minutes Parker boring through to beat Pavey from close range, and with ten minutes left Parker gave his side a victory they scarcely deserved.

FRIENDLIES AT NORTH TAWTON AND BUCKFASTLEIGH:
Wednesday, April 18th.
Exeter City's visit to North Tawton on Wednesday to meet the representative Yeoford and North Tawton District League XI in an exhibition match was a huge success. Wet weather was responsible for thinning the attendance slightly, but there was nevertheless a fairly large crowd present, and they were treated to some very pretty football. The Grecians, accompanied by Mr F. P. Nichols, motored from Exeter in one of Messrs Long's cosy "York Coaches, and the headquarters for both teams was the Ring of Bells Hotel. The North Tawton Brass Band, under the conductorship of Mr Lee, played the teams from the hotel to the field.
There was a burst of enthusiastic cheering when the captains, Mitton and Ebdon, met in midfield, along with the referee, for the settling of the preliminaries. Mitton won the toss, and Exeter had the dual advantage of the wind and the slope in the first half.

Opening briskly the City had matters very much their own way, and although Line had to pick the ball out of the net ten times before the interval, everyone agreed that he acquitted himself as well as any of the League players during that period, in fact, rather better than the rest. He made many excellent saves, but the shooting was far more powerful than anything he had been normally accustomed to, and he was not always able to complete his clearing of the ball, several goals being scored by the following up of a shot which Line had pushed out.
In the second half the City added four more goals, the League then being allowed to score two. There was a mighty cheer from the crowd when Ebdon beat Pavey, following a corner well put across by Bater, and again when Cummings scored.
Final Score
North Tawton League X1 2
Exeter City 14
The City's goals were obtained by Crockford (6), Mathieson (2), Kirk (2), Matthews (2), Mitton (1), and Shelton (1).
THINGS THAT DELIGHTED THE CROWD
Despite the heavy scoring the game was voted most entertaining, and it would be difficult to say which things delighted the crowd the most; the brilliant touch-line sprints and centres, and the speed of Matthews and Shelton, Kirk's bewildering zig-zag soloist runs, Crockford's cool leadership and easily placed shots, and the amazing jugglery of Mathieson with head and feet.
The League players stuck to their work with commendable zeal, and never gave up trying, outclassed as they were.
THE GRECIANS AT BUCKFASTLEIGH
It was extremely unfortunate from the financial standpoint that the weather was so bad for Exeter City's other game on Wednesday, at Buckfastleigh. There was nevertheless a fair sized crowd to see the Grecians win by five goals to one against the local team.
The idea of changing goalkeepers made the game more interesting, and Harry Fryer, who guarded Buckfastleigh's last line of defence against his own colleagues, was certainly in fine form.
Although the Grecians naturally did the bulk of the attacking, the backs, Waymouth and Cowie, kept them at bay until Davis began the scoring, beating Fryer at close range. Copplestone dashed in and netted a fine equaliser. Just before the interval Camble gave Exeter the lead, and Willcocks came close to again levelling the scores, but his header was just too high. In the second half the City swarmed round Fryer's charge, Duke
heading a third goal following a corner. Fryer then made a number of thrilling saves, but was beaten in the closing few minutes by Southway and Davis.
Exeter City team:-
Buckfastleigh goalkeeper; Pollard, Ackroyd; Southway, Duke, Wilson; Newman, Camble, Parsons, Davis, Dockray.
Final Score
Buckfastleigh 1-5 City
