DESCRIPTION
The outstanding features of today's match were the eagerness of the City forwards, together with a fair amount of skill, and the stubbornness and strength of the Watford defence. Exeter began in confident style and built up some clever attacks, but Watford came back through the agency of Anstiss and Stephenson. A nice pass to Matthews from Kirk provided a good opening, but the centre flashed across the goalmouth at such extreme speed that none of the other forwards could get near the ball.
Kirk broke through and beat Johnson in great style, and brought the crowd to its feet when his flying shot was tipped over the bar by Williams. Stephenson and Anstiss combined effectively to outwit the City defence, but when the ball came across Pagnam was slow to respond, and the chance was lost.
Eight minutes after the half-time interval Gallogley gave the City the lead shooting into the net with great force after the 9 ball had been crossed by Matthews to Dockray, and turned back by Dockray to the old "Pilgrim."
PONTYPRIDD v CITY RESERVES.
The Southern League match at Pontypridd proved to be a keen and spectacular game, and after a hard fight the City Reserves retired defeated by three goals to one. Spence scored all three goals for the Welsh eleven, and Wray beat the home goalkeeper with a great shot from Batten's pass, midway through the second half.
