Referee: Mr E.C.Sambrook, of Swansea.
CITY:

Result:
Exeter City (Dockray 2, Murray) 3
Q. P. Rangers 0.
Coleburne won the toss, and the City defended the St. James's Road goal in the first half. They continued their recent excellent form, and swarmed all over the Rangers, whose efforts were weak by comparison. After four minutes Dockray got away with the Rangers standing still, appealing for offside, and the veteran Carlisle winger dribbled right through to the goal area and slipped the ball into the net, wide of Hill.
For the remainder of the first half the game resembled a duel between Hill and the City forwards. Shots were rained in at him from every angle, but he was in exceptional form, and his uncanny anticipation and last-minute clearances drew frequent applause. He was accorded a rousing ovation as the teams left the field at half time.
SECOND HALF.
After the interval the Rangers improved their game, and Johnson made one or two worthwhile attempts to equalise, but Exeter stood firm in defence with Pollard and Charlton never putting a foot out of place. For half an hour play was fairly even and lacking in excitement. Then Shelton crossed the ball to Lievesley, who jumped simultaneously with Hill for possession. The ball was fisted out over Lievesley's head, and Dockray rushed it into the net. In the very next attack Kirk cut through the defence but was grounded on the edge of the penalty area as he slipped the ball to Murray. The light-footed little Scot promptly netted Exeter's third goal.

The "Spooner Cup" match between strong teams representing the City and Argyle Reserves, at St James's Park, on Monday evening, was well supported, the attendance numbering 2,500.
In previous contests the trophy has been on view at the match, but on this occasion it was not in evidence. As a matter of fact, the Plymouth Argyle officials did not trouble to bring it along. They had, no doubt, drawn a certain conclusion as to the probable out come of the Cup encounter.
PREVIOUS RESULTS: (FIRST TEAM MATCHES)
1913-14
Plymouth Argyle 0 Exeter City 1,
at Plymouth.
1921-22
Exeter City 0 Plymouth Argyle 2,
at Exeter.
1922-23
Plymouth Argyle 3 Exeter City 1, at Plymouth.
But the Cup changed hands on Monday, theoretcally, at least. In a moderately good game the Grecians triumphed by a single goal to nil. The credit for the winning goal belongs entirely to Lievesley, who took the ball past the backs and landed it in the net, with a well directed shot, after 25 minutes' play.
