City v Merthyr
St James's Park was in much better condition this afternoon for the City's Football League engagement with Merthyr Town than anyone seeing the ground at mid-day yesterday would have dared to hope. The surface was very soft, but there were no pools of water, and the groundsman had worked wonders in the goal areas. Exeter City were at full strength, and hopeful of enhancing their record of twelve games without a defeat. It was stated by Merthyr that Len Southway is likely to be out of the game for some weeks on account of a strained groin. They also had to make a change in the forward line through Turner being injured, Arblaster coming in at inside left and Drinnan moving over to inside right.

Referee: Mr A.F.Davis, of Bristol.

Lindon
Merthyr Town:
Charlton beat Lindon in the toss, and set Merthyr to occupy the far end. The first item of note was a goal to the City, straight out of the text-book. Kirk captured the ball and passed to Compton, who took it right to the goal line. His ground pass went un-erringly to Davis, who side-footed the ball into the net from three yards out. Within a minute of the start of play in the second half the City went further ahead, and again it was the quickness and persistence and accurate pass of Compton which enabled Davis to net the ball with an instantaneous shot, to which Lindon fell a lot too late. Ward scored for Merthyr after eighteen minutes, the ball having rebounded off the foot of the post from Arblaster.
Final score
Exeter City 2 Merthyr Town 1. It was a meritorious win, even though the score does not represent the extent of Exeter City's superiority. It was also the Grecians' ninth League match without a defeat, and the thirteenth when the Cup ties are included. The attendance was 6,000.
