EXETER CITY v WATFORD

Saturday, February 7th,
at St James's Park.
CITY 4 WATFORD 0

Last season: City 1 Watford 0.

City: Bailey; Pollard, Charlton; Pullan, Crompton, Potter; Matthews, Kirk, Davis, Lievesley, Compton.

Watford:- Williams; Slade, Prior; Smith, Strain, Baker; Stephenson, Pagnam, Darvill, Mummery, Andrews. Referee: Mr E.Tolfree, of Southampton.

CHARLTON'S WONDER GOAL

It was a great day for the Grecians, who delighted the crowd with their football, especially in the second half. Kirk opened the scoring after five minutes and if the inside men had taken all their chances the City would have crossed over with a substantial lead at half-time. Twenty minutes after the change of ends Davis added the second goal from close range, then Charlton from the half-way line forced his way clean through the Watford team and wound up a beautiful bit of work by beating Williams with a drive which nearly shattered the net. It was a wonder goal, and will be talked about at St James's Park for years. The cheering was loud and prolonged, and had barely subsided when Crompton lobbed the ball over Williams's head and so registered goal number four.
Very little was seen of the Watford forwards, so effective were the City's half-backs and backs..

MID RHONDDA v CITY RESERVES.
SOUTHERN LEAGUE
The Grecians' second string were almost as successful, winning their Southern League match at Tonypandy by three clear goals. Blackmore scored twice and Shelton contributed the third. The Reserves were represented by:- Pavey; Coleburne, and Flynn; Crawshaw, Appleyard, and Jones; Newman, Smelt, Blackmore, Murray, and Shelton.

OTHER ITEMS.

Dick Pym has been selected to keep goal for the Rest v England in the International trial at the Manchester City ground on Monday next.
George Hunter is transferred from Workington to Southend.

DEVON PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Exeter City v. Torquay United

Wednesday, February 11th.

EXETER CITY 7 TORQUAY UNITED 1.

Exeter City and Torquay United met at St James's Park today in wild weather to contest their tie introducing this season's Devon Professional Championship competition.
Both clubs were strongly represented.
Exeter City.
Bailey
Pollard Charlton
Pullan Crompton Potter
Matthews Kirk Blackmore Davis Shelton
Torquay United
Gartrell
Millard Rice
Leslie Miller Brown

Bolt Pridham Kellock Bell Kirkpatrick

Referee: Mr H.Frith.

Kellock won the toss, and Blackmore set the ball rolling towards St James's Road in the teeth of the rain-laden gale, and before a small attendance. After five minutes' play Pullan took the ball smartly through and fed Kirk, who scored from a very narrow angle. Gartrell distinguished himself by making several good saves from the City forwards, but eventually he was beaten again by Kirk, who had received the ball from Pullan.
Half-time City 2 Torquay 0.

SECOND HALF.
Blackmore scored Exeter's third goal ten minutes after the start of play in this half, his shot striking Rice and glancing into the net by way of the post. Bailey saved a penalty kick taken by Bolt, and Kirk dribbled right through almost to the Torquay goal line when he was tripped up by Gartrell, but the referee, whose decisions were amusing the crowd a great deal, ignored the incident. Blackmore then scored Exeter's fourth goal, and when a penalty was awarded the Grecians it was taken by Bailey, who scored. Blackmore than scored Exeter's sixth goal, and five minutes from time, after Bolt had struck the post Kellock netted the rebound, but Blackmore found time to get the seventh goal with a magnificent shot.
