EXETER CITY V ABERDARE ATHLETIC
St James's Park was in splendid trim for today's Football League with Aberdare, the surface being firm for the first time since the month of October. A strong and gusty wind, however, threatened to make accurate ball control somewhat difficult. Exeter City's attack underwent four changes for this match, the latest alteration being the substitution of Smelt for Kirk, through "Jazzo" being on the injured list.

Aberdare:
Four thousand spectators were present when Charlton won the toss, setting Aberdare to face the St James's Road end and the wind. A brisk bit of work by the 'Darians on the right wing was for a moment dangerous, but eventually Charlton cleared. But Aberdare re turned to the attack, and Metcalf worked past Charlton and centred the ball. Bailey ran out and became entangled with Jones, and with the goalkeeper arrently holding Jones down by his ankles a penalty was awarded the Welshmen, from which Smith scored. This was in the nineteenth minute of play. Crompton injured his knee and had to leave the field. Blackmore levelled the score with a great shot from outside the penalty area, eleven minutes from half-time. Crompton returned at outside-left with Shelton going left half and Potter centre half.
Twelve minutes after the resumption of play Exeter took the lead, Smelt heading the ball into the goal from a neat lob by Pullan, and sixteen minutes later Compton beat Thomson with a fast rising shot from the edge of the penalty area. It was not a particularly great game to watch, but a very creditable performance by the Grecians in the circumstances. The many changes in the forward line, coupled with the necessity for re-arranging the team on the field owing to the injury to Crompton, was a very big handicap to the team. There could be no comparison between the sides from the standpoint of combination and craftsmanship, Exeter being vastly superior both at full-back and half-back, and showing more skill at forward. Smelt enhanced his reputation with a very cool and clever display, and was the smartest forward on the field. Aberdare's only shot on the Exeter goal worthy of notice was the one which scored, the penalty. They were as poor a side as any seen at the Park this season.
ABERAMAN V CITY RESERVES.
In today's Southern League match at Aberaman, Exeter City Reserves gave a further demonstration of their goal-scoring prowess, winning by five - nil.
The successful marksmen were Davis 2, Lievesley 2, and Murray.
PROPOSED PRESENTATION TO DICK PYM.
At the end of the month, local admirers of Dick Pym, whose name is now a household word in Association circles, will have an opportunity of showing their appreciation of the services which the former Exeter City custodian has rendered his country and the Grecians. The idea is to present Pym with a full-sized photograph of himself in colours, and 300 persons are wanted to subscribe a shilling each, which will entitle them to attend the presentation at the Trades and Labour Hall. The event is being arranged by Messrs S.Rundle and A.Matthews and should meet with the support of the local football public.
