Kirk scored for the City two minutes before the interval, and the lead was preserved until eight minutes from time when Marshall beat Bailey with a header from close range. The game, from a spectacular point of view, was disappointing, and at no time reached anything approaching good football. The home side were quicker, but their methods were suspicious, and Kirk, in particular, was fouled nearly every time he got the ball. Pollard and Flynn had a busy afternoon, and appeared at times to be greatly over-worked.
