Match 29

Newport County (a)

Southern League
Bath City (h)

Newport County v Exeter City

Saturday, February 13th 1926.

Newport County 3 DAVIS 2 DRINNAN
Exeter City 0

Referee:- Mr L. New, of Bristol.

Newport:- Maidment; Frank McKenzie, Smith; Nairn, Fred McKenzie, Bowsher;
Forward, Gittens, Davis, Drinnan, Cook.

City:- Bailey; Pollard, Charlton; Pullan, Potter, Shelton; Matthews, McDevitt, Blackmore, Lievesley, Compton.

The weakness of the Exeter forwards was responsible for the heavy defeat at Newport, although the margin against the Grecians would have been less if their defence had not cracked up in the closing stages. Jack Davis, the old City centre forward, scored Newport's first goal twenty minutes from the start of the second half with a shot from a very acute angle, and Exeter held out until twelve minutes from time, when Drinnan obtained Newport's second. Davis then got the third point for Newport following a corner by Cook. It was a great game for Jack Davis, who showed splendid eagerness and shooting ability against his old club. The Grecians unfortunately showed no sign of the brilliant forward play which has made them so formidable on their own ground.

Southern League
City Reserves 4 (CASSON MYERS 2 HAWKINS)
Bath City 1 (DALZIEL)

City Reserves: Pavey; Lowton, Flynn; Crawshaw, Crompton, Myers; Newman, Kirk, Casson, Bolam, Hawkins.

Bath City:- Neale; Screech, Staples; Milton, Long, Smith; Sargeant, Hill, Britton, Lingard, Dalziel.

There was only a small attendance at St James's Park today, when the City Reserves entertained Bath City in a Southern League game. later Myers increased the lead with a header from a corner taken by Casson scored for the Reserves after 27 minutes, and ten minutes Bolam. Hawkins, receiving from Newman, put Exeter three up midway through the second half, and after Dalziel had scored for the visitors, a great shot by Myers produced the fourth goal for the Reserves.
