Luton Town (h)

Southern League
Bath City (a)

Exeter City 2-2 Luton Town

Saturday, February 20th 1926.

Referee:- Mr C.F.Moon, of Bristol.

City: Bailey; Lowton, Charlton; Pullan, Potter, Shelton; Matthews, McDevitt, Blackmore, Lievesley, Compton.

Luton: Purdy; Graham, Till; Neil, Rennie, Millar; Moffat, Thomson, Thompson, Agnew, Dennis.

This was one of the few really pleasant afternoons since Exeter's grandstand was destroyed by fire last November, and the pitch was in excellent condition. There were 7,000 spectators. Exeter City had to rest Pollard, through injury, and Lowton, the former Heavitree United defender, was selected. Charlton lost the toss and the Grecians kicked off towards the St James's Road end, and in three minutes took the lead. A long punt down the middle by Charlton resulted in Blackmore and McDevitt manoeuvring for possession. Blackmore back-heeled the leather to McDevitt, who, seeing Lievesley unmarked, gave him a pass, and the inside left was quick to shoot low to the net, well wide of Purdy. Twelve minutes before half-time Compton beat Purdy with a fierce grounder from ten yards' range.

SECOND HALF.

Blackmore swept the ball high over the bar from Matthews's centre, and later hit the post. Thirteen minutes from the end Luton were awarded a penalty for hands by Potter, and Dennis scored from the spot. Five minutes later Thomson levelled the scores with a good shot from Moffat's centre. Luton were the more dangerous team in the last few minutes, and Bailey saved from Thompson, and a drive by Moffat was headed out of the goalmouth by Potter.

SOUTHERN LEAGUE:
BATH CITY v CITY RESERVES.

Exeter City Reserves at Twerton Park were well beaten by Bath City, for whom Britton and Dalziel scored before the interval. Back made it three-nil midway through the second half, but Casson scored the best goal of the match, running right through on his own to beat Neale with a beautiful shot. Unfortunately his effort came too late.

Result:
Bath City 3 Exeter City Reserves 1.
