EXETER CITY 3 BRENTFORD 1.
Saturday, October 9th, 1926,
at St James's Park.

Boisterous weather attended today's match, which attracted a crowd of about seven thousand. Both sides were unchanged from last week.

Exeter City.
Bailey; Pollard and Charlton; Pullan, Ditchburn, and Potter; Purcell, Phoenix,
Blackmore, Lievesley, and Compton.

Brentford.
Ferguson; Donnelly and Butler; Noble, Rae, and Bellamy; Hendren, Lane, Watkins, Dearn, and Berry.

Referee:- Captain C. F. Linnitt, of Weymouth.

The Grecians are to be congratulated on a very smart win. They had no more of the game than their opponents, who are a decidedly workmanlike team, but they rounded off their work with good goals, whereas the cream of Brentford's goal scoring chances, coming early in the game, were wasted by bad shooting. Watkins and Dearn were the chief sinners in this respect, and much of the grand play of Hendren and Lane came to naught through the failure of others to place their shots on the target. Mention has been made of Exeter's good shooting, but a veil must be drawn over two glaring misses by Blackmore late in the game. Blackmore scored twice when he appeared to have very little chance, and did not score when the odds were 100 to one on. The dashing play of Phoenix, and his clever collaboration with Purcell, a nimble right-winger, were very pleasing features of a thoroughly good game. The City took the lead in the first half after Dearn, for Brentford, had fired the ball over the bar from an easy position. Compton rounded Donnelly, and sent the ball into the penalty area. Blackmore, with his back to the goal, swivelled round and put the ball into the net off the goalkeeper. After 32 minutes' play the move between Compton and Blackmore was repeated, and the second goal came about, Blackmore being the scorer. Lane reduced Brentford's arrears early in the second half, and Phoenix rounded off the scoring with a nicely judged shot which entered the net off the far post. Purcell deserves some of the credit for this goal.

The Reserves were two down in just over four minutes at Plainmoor, early goals being obtained by Daniels and Andrews. Dent Scores Six Goals

There was a crowd of about one and a half thousand people on Wednesday evening to witness the Western League match between the reserves of Exeter and Swindon Town. Newman being on the injured list, Lievesley played outside-right, which was of course his original position when he joined Exeter City in 1923.

Exeter City Reserves.
Letheren; Lowton and Miller; Pool, Good, Garratt; Lievesley, McDevitt, Dent, Walker, and Parkin.

Swindon Town Reserves.
Garrett; O'Neill and Brooke; Furniss, Waite, Ing; Poppitt, Petrie, Daniels, J.Johnson, and Davies.

Referee: Mr J.J.Hughes, of Plymouth.

The game opened brightly, and clever combination by the Grecians kept Swindon on the defensive. After seven minutes Dent accepted a pass up the centre from Walker, and scored with a rousing shot. McDevitt in the next minute struck the upright with a good hard drive, while several excellent clearances were made by Garrett. A second goal was registered by Exeter when Walker and Parkin dribbled through, Walker giving Dent the final pass to beat Garrett. Almost directly afterwards Exeter went further ahead, Dent completing the "hat trick" by making full use of another good opening provided by Walker. This was
thirteen minutes after the start. Before Exeter City could report further progress, however, Letheren had to cut out two smart centres from Davies, and Garratt headed away another. Parkin netted, but offside was given against Dent. After twenty-five minutes Petrie scored for Swindon, but Dent quickly replied with another goal, when McDevitt directed to him a clearance by Miller. With Letheren "hors de combat" Swindon netted, but the whistle had previously sounded for a foul on the goalkeeper. Play was fast and clever, and full of incident. Petrie and Poppitt both hit the framework of the Exeter goal, and Garrett saved from Dent. Half-time:
City Reserves 4
Swindon Reserves 1.

Although Swindon scored twice in the second half Exeter also did so, both the goals coming from Dent to register the first double hat-trick by an Exeter City player in a competition match since Bell did so eighteen years ago.
