Match 33
13th March 1926
Southern League:-City Reserves v Barry Town
Third Division South:- Norwich City v ECFC

Norwich City v Exeter City

Saturday, March 13th 1926.

The Grecians journeyed to East Anglia for the League engagement at Norwich, where they were, on form, expected to have a hard task in extracting even a point from the trip. Exeter, too, were no doubt bound to feel the loss of the services of Matthews, their dashing and clever outside-right, who was yesterday transferred to Plymouth Argyle.

Norwich:-Dennington; Hannah, Wingham; Wall, Martin, Duffus; Featherby, Banks, Jackson, North, Wilson.

Exeter:- Bailey; Pollard, Charlton; Pullan, Garratt, Myers; Newman, Kirk, Blackmore, Lievesley, Compton.

Five minutes after the start Jackson scored a brilliant goal for the Canaries, and midway through the first half Banks brushed past Charlton and beat Bailey from close in. Just before the interval a beautiful centre from Compton was met by Newman, who cut into the middle and beat Dennington with a swift cross-drive. Banks scored again for Norwich in the second half after Dennington had tipped a shot from Newman over the bar. The counter-attack was swift and cleverly executed. Garratt, the new player from Torquay United, was a strong force in the Exeter City intermediate line.

SOUTHERN LEAGUE:
CITY RESERVES v BARRY.

Played at St James's Park. Exeter City Reserves were beaten at home by Barry, for whom Brittain scored after half an hour and Doncaster ten minutes from the end. Reserves 0 Batty 2.

  • SCHOOLBOYS MATCH:
  • NORTH V SOUTH. Clifford Bastin, of Ladysmith Road School, was at inside left for the South v the North in the Junior International trial at Leicester this afternoon. North won by three goals to one. He owed something of his distinction to his brilliant play in the recent Exeter Schools match, in which he took Bristol by storm."
