Exeter City Bailey; Lowton and Charlton; Pullan, Pollard, and Potter;
Newman, Kirk, Lievesley, Myers, and Compton.
It was a well-fought game, and the result is a fair indication of the run of the play. Exeter showed improved form towards the end, but on the whole the better combined efforts came from Northampton. Bailey and Charlton did well in the Exeter defence, and Lievesley, Compton, and Kirk were the most dangerous forwards. Pease, Hammond, and Tresadern were outstanding for the Cobblers. Cockle scored after 15 minutes, and Robinson just half-time. The penalty kick, converted by Charlton, was given against Brett for handling in attempting to prevent Lievesley from breaking through. Myers, playing on his old ground, was very popular with the crowd.
