ECFC 3-1 Millwall

Saturday, April 17th 1926.
Great interest was centred in the match at St James's Park today between Exeter City and Millwall (they have now dropped the name of "Athletic" from their title) for a brace of Southern Section points calculated to make all the difference to Millwall's opportunity of promotion and Exeter City's chance of avoiding the necessity of an application for re-election to the League. Millwall came to Exeter full of honours. Unbeaten since New Year's Day in the League competition, they have not conceded a goal to the opposing team in their last eleven matches. The Lions were at their full strength, and Exeter also had out their best side.

Charlton's success with the toss was duly noted by the six thousand spectators present, and Exeter played from the St James's Road end with the wind and sun in their favour. After eight minutes Compton scored for the City with a fine cross shot. It was the first goal the Lions had lost for many weeks. After twenty five minutes Moule equalised with an equally good shot, and at the interval the teams stood level at one goal apiece. Eight minutes after the start of the second half Exeter's lead was restored by Lievesley, and six minutes from time Kirk made the issue absolutely safe with a third goal.
Result: Exeter City 3 Millwall l.

PONTYPRIDD v EXETER CITY RESERVES.
Southern League match at Pontypridd. Facing a strong wind during the first half Exeter defended well, but were unable to prevent John scoring two minutes before the interval. Exeter showed much the greater degree of skill in the second half with the conditions more in their favour, and were rather unlucky not to win. The equalising goal was obtained by Casson midway through the second half. Result:
Pontypridd 1 City Reserves 1.

Clifford Bastin, fresh from his triumph in the Boys International match, returned to Exeter and played on Monday evening for Ladysmith Road against Newtown in the Exeter Schools' Final. The "Ladybirds" won by seven goals to one, and Bastin, who is in a class of his own in schools soccer, scored six of the goals, with Davy netting the seventh.
The match was played at St James's Park, and the Shield and medals were presented by Mr George Rice, chairman of the Exeter City F.C. Supporters' Club.
