Brentford v Exeter City
Saturday, April 24th 1926.
On all hands it was admitted that the task of Exeter City in their task of opposing Brentford at Griffin Park this afternoon, was most formidable. Neither club was clear of the danger of one of the last two places in the League, but with a lead of a couple of points and a game in hand Brentford were much more favourably placed than the Grecians.
Brentford 2-0 Exeter City
Half-time: No score.
Referee: Capt A.J.Prince-Cox. Attendance 5,000.
Brentford:
Thompson; Donnelly, McClennon; Noble, Whitton, Walton; Hendren, Lane, Watkins, Finlayson, Douglas.
Exeter City:
Bailey; Lowton, Charlton; Pullan, Myers, Potter; Newman, Kirk, Blackmore, Lievesley, Compton.
At the interval nothing had been scored, but four minutes after the resumption Whitton centred right into the goalmouth, where Finlayson headed against the upright. The rebound came back to Watkins, who netted a simple goal. The second goal was put through by Douglas, the centre from Whitton having gone over the heads of the Exeter backs. The City were well beaten by a vigorous side. Vigour, in fact, was what Exeter lacked, and their forward line was woefully weak. Kirk played a useful game, but Blackmore was hopeless, but in their defence the Grecians drew the admiration of the spectators, Lowton, Charlton, and Bailey all being hard workers.

- BOB POLLARD'S BENEFIT POSTPONED.
It is with regret that Exeter City supporters have learned that the negotiations in regard to Bob Pollard's benefit match have fallen through, Leicester City having written to state that they are unable to make the journey on April 28th, as they are engaged in a Charity Cup match at Norwich on that date. Consequently the match has been postponed until next September, and as soon as the fixture lists of next season are available the Exeter City Directors hope to fix up an attractive match with one of the best known First Division clubs. All persons holding tickets for Exeter v Leicester City are asked to retain them, as they will be available for the game in September.
EXETER CITY'S TRANSFER LIST.
Free transfers have been given to Pavey, Hawkins, Flynn, Crawshaw, Bolam, Casson, Myers, and Shelton. Kirk and McDevitt have not been. offered terms as yet.

EBBW VALE V EXETER CITY RESERVES.
Exeter City Reserves wound up their season on Friday evening, April 30th, with a victory in South Wales, beating Ebbw Vale by 3-2 in a Southern League match.
Ebbw Vale:
Howells
Thomas Harvey
Jones Ellerington Codd
Johnson McGill Price Tomlin Cope
Referee:- Mr A.J.Attwood, of Newport.
Kelland Chapman Casson Milsom Bolam Myers Crompton Crawshaw
Flynn Hawkins
Pavey
City Reserves:
There was only a small attendance, as this was the fifth game on the Vale ground this week. Flynn won the toss and Price started the ball by passing to Johnson, but possession was lost, and Thomas was hard pressed to clear from Casson. Then there was an exciting breakaway by Price, who transferred to Cope. The centre from Cope was finely placed but Price headed the ball over the bar. From a free kick the Valians scored, after twelve minutes, Jones placing his kick well into the goalmouth for Price to beat Pavey. Soon afterwards Cope, receiving from Ellerington, beat Flynn rather easily and centred for Price to score a second goal. Crawshaw then sent Bolam away, and Exeter's right winger first beat the defence and then centred to Chapman, who beat Howells with an excellent shot.
Half-time:
Ebbw Vale 2 City Reserves 1.
SECOND HALF.
Hawkins played brilliantly for the Grecians in the second half, and it was from one of his passes that Chapman was put in possession and went through to score the equalising goal. With the score level play became very exciting. A raid on the Exeter goal was foiled by Pavey, who saved from McGill, then in a splendid breakaway the home defence was again beaten, Exeter taking the lead with a good goal from Milsom. It was a fine and exciting game, and Exeter deserved their victory, if only for the way they fought back after being two goals down.
