Newport County v Exeter City

NEWPORT COUNTY 1 EXETER CITY 0
City Defeated in a Close Game
REG CLARKE MAKES HIS DEBUT AT LEFT HALF

Thursday, March 22nd 1928.

Exeter City travelled to Newport this afternoon to take on the "Ironsides" in a rearranged Football League match, the original fixtures having been put off on account of the Cup-ties.

Newport : Maidment; Anderson and Hinton; Richardson, Bowsher, and Pugh; Harper, Gittens, Waterston, Thomas, and Young.

Exeter: Wainwright; Pollard and Miller;
Phoenix, Pool, and Clarke; Purcell, McDevitt, Dent, Vaughan, and Compton.

The match at Somerton Park was very close, there being little disparity in the rival elevens. The issue was decided by a goal scored by Gittens before the interval.
Exeter introduced Reg Clarke at left half in place of Gee, who broke a leg at Bristol on Saturday. Clarke's debut was satisfactory in every respect.
