City Reserves v Yeovil & Petters
Third Division
Bristol Rovers v Exeter City

BRISTOL ROVERS 3 EXETER CITY 1
Tuesday, December 28th 1926, at Bristol.

Exeter City concluded their Christmas holiday programme with a visit to Bristol today, and railway excursions from Exeter carried 1,500 City supporters. Exeter had Lievesley at inside left in place of Phoenix, and Compton, though travelling with the team, was unfit to play, and Parkin continued at outside left.

Bristol Rovers.
Whatley; Ashford, Rotherham; Rowley, Smith, Roberts; Barratt, Williams, Perry, Culley, and Evans.

Exeter City.
Bailey; Pollard, Charlton; Pullan, Pool, Potter; Purcell, McDevitt, Blackmore, Lievesley, and Parkin.

Referee: Mr W.Musther, of London.

Rowley beat Charlton with the coin and Blackmore started, with the City facing the sun. The Rovers have often disappointed their supporters at Eastville this season, but today a crowd of over seventeen thousand people saw them account for Exeter City in a very business like way. At an early stage the home defence was sorely taxed, Lievesley heading past the post and Blackmore having a shot fisted over by Whatley. Blackmore, through being too unselfish, wasted a good chance by giving the ball to Lievesley when he could have done better himself. Lievesley's shot was sent weakly wide. Bristol scored after seven minutes from only their third breakaway, for Barratt dropped a nice centre into the Exeter goalmouth, where there was a melee, Culley hooking the ball past Bailey. Three minutes later the Bristol lead was added to by a wonderful shot from Evans, wide out on the left wing. At the end of half an hour's play Purcell and McDevitt forged out an opening for Parkin, who scored with a shot off the upright. Exeter began the second half well, and had several good chances to equalise, but the shooting was poor. The best attempt was a high shot by Purcell which Whatley punched over the bar. Perry scored the Rovers' third goal ten minutes from time."
