BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION 5
EXETER CITY 2.

Played at the Goldstone Ground, Brighton, on Saturday, February 12th 1927.

In the first half the City were as good as Brighton, except in front Errors by Lowton after the interval upset and unbalanced the defence. Pool was of goal. a very fine centre half, but Pullan and Ditchburn could not cope with the speed and subtelty of Wilson and Nightingale, a pair of fine dashing wingers. With few opportunities Newman and Purcell did smart work, whilst Parkin fully justified his inclusion.

Brighton and Hove.
Williams; Smith, and Curran; Wilkinson, Mooney, and Little; Nightingale, Cook, Jennings, Hopkins, and Wilson.

Exeter City.
Randall; Lowton, and Charlton; Pullan, Pool, and Ditchburn; Newman,Purcell Blackmore, Walker, and Parkin.

Referee: Mr E.G. Goddard, of Swindon.

Fully ten thousand spectators saw Brighton win the toss, and almost immediately break away and force a corner. Fine defensive work by Charlton was the means of checking Nightingale, then the City forwards got moving. Parkin cut through and centred, but Blackmore was much too slow and was charged off the ball by Mooney. The game was fast, but the Brighton forwards were inclined to over-elaborate. At the end of seven minutes, however, the Seasiders took the lead. Nightingale made progress up the wing and passed to Cook, who in turn transferred to Jennings. The centre forward ran into position and steered the ball past Randall, who had no chance.

Wilson (2), Hopkins (1), and Jennings (1) scored second half goals for Brighton, but the game ended sensationally, for the City secured two unexpected goals in the final two minutes. Purcell obtained the first with a long shot, and just on time Blackmore scored the second.

EXETER CITY RESERVES v
YEOVIL AND PETTERS.
Southern League match,
at St James's Park, Exeter.

Played on Wednesday, February 16th 1927.
Today's match for Southern League points was especially notable through the return to the fray of Pollard and McDevitt, both of whom have been laid up with injuries.

Exeter City Reserves.
G.Stanbury; Pollard, and Miller; R.Clarke, Ditchburn, and Potter; Newman, Mc Devitt, Lievesley, Butler, and Parkin.
Yeovil.
Rogers; Day, and Howe; Abbott, Gallon, and Radford; Pidgeon, Wilson, Connor, Lowes, and Parker.

In the fifth minute a misplaced clearance by Pollard left Connor with a clear field, and his carefully judged shot gave Stanbury no chance. The "Glovers" played quick and clever football in the next few minutes, and
the City defence was kept busy. Stanbury's spectacular goalkeeping, and particularly two saves he made from Lowes won hearty applause. Yeovil kept up the pressure and forced several corners, but then the Grecians broke away from their own half, McDevitt swinging the ball out to Newman. The little outside-right middled promptly, and Lievesley went on to level the score with a powerful low drive. A mistake by Day let Parkin through, but the winger shot high over the goal. Rogers fisted out a rousing shot by Newman, and when the Glovers broke away Connor received the ball in a favourable position but was fouled by Pollard and had to be carried off the field. Two minutes later Lievesley headed a goal from a square pass by Parkin. Day miskicked, and Lievesley, quick to seize his chance, went on to beat the goalkeeper, and thus complete the "hat-trick." Shortly before the interval, a centre from Pidgeon was headed into the Exeter net by Connor, now returned, and although the City appealed for offside the goal was allowed to stand.
Exeter dominated much of the play in the second period, and Parkin added two more goals, his second a very fine shot from near the touch line.
The result was:-
Exeter City Reserves 5
Yeovil and Petters United 2.
