Christmas Day Football Southend v Exeter City
At the Kurzaal, Southend, on Christmas morning, Exeter had to face a very boisterous rain-laden wind in the first half, and Jones scored a goal for the "Shrimpers" after 25 minutes' play. The Grecians had much the better of the game territorially from beginning to end, all the forwards playing well with Houghton and Hemingway particularly in evidence, while Ditchburn also played a strong game. Shots struck the Southend posts and crossbar, but despite all their pressure Exeter could not get the ball into the net, and they retired defeated by one goal to nil. There were 7,000 spectators.
Southend:- Moore; French and Robinson; Crewe, Ward and Lloyd; Barnett, Bailey, Shankley, Jones, and Borland.
Exeter:- Alderson; Baugh and Shanks; Sheffield, Ditchburn, and Dennington; Purcell, Houghton, Guyan, Hemingway, and Doncaster. Referee:- Mr G.Franklin, of Portsmouth.

RESERVES BEATEN AT HOME.
Exeter City Reserves v Bath City
It was a real disappointment to the bulk of the 2,000 spectators at the Park on Christmas Day that the City Reserves, after holding a goal lead at half time, were beaten 2-1 by Bath City in the Southern League match. Victory went to the better team, the Bath men showing up well throughout the game. Waite, of Bath, looked a better centre half than Mason on the day's play, and Billy Compton, the old Grecian, took some holding. Gumm scored for Exeter five minutes before half-time, and Bath's goals were obtained after the interval by Alsop and Brittain, the last-named netting when Holland failed to hold a low shot by Compton. Holland was frequently troubled by the mud in the goalmouth at the St James's Road end. McDevitt put in the best shot of the entire match, Cuff managing to fist the flying ball over the bar just in time to prevent a goal.
