Saturday, February 8th 1930.
EXETER CITY 3 Purcell Houghton Guyan
NORWICH CITY 0
Half-time 3-0.
Exeter City:- Alderson; Gray and Shanks; Clarke, Mason, and Dennington; Purcell, McDevitt, Guyan, Houghton, and Hemingway.
Norwich City:- Jarvie; Hannah and Richmond; Brown, O'Brien, and Lochhead; Porter, Cropper, Hunt, Thompson, and Slicer.
Referee:- Capt. A. J. Prince - Cox, of London.
Today the teams lined up in cold dry weather, with an easterly wind blowing, making the players anxious to get to business and warm up quickly. There was a crowd of about 7,000 when Mason lost the toss, and Exeter kicked off from the St James's Road end. The game between Exeter City and Norwich was one of varying phases. Playing against the wind the Grecians made a whirlwind start, scoring three goals in the opening quarter of an hour. From then onwards Exeter tailed off, and at the same time Norwich greatly improved, Alderson being the stumbling block which the Canaries could not surmount. After eight minutes Purcell scored from close range when Mason's shot, from thirty yards, had rebounded off O'Brien. Houghton increased the lead within two minutes, netting the ball in a scramble after his header had been punched out by Jarvie, and Guyan scored the most simple of goals when Jarvie dived to save from Hemingway, but could only push the ball out to the waiting centre forward.

LOVELLS ATHLETIC 2
EXETER CITY RESERVES 1.
Southern League match at Newport. Miller and Ditchburn performed well in the breaking up of the Newport attacks as well as giving their forwards several opportunities. Bright, however, handled the ball in the penalty area, Gardner scoring from the resultant "spot" kick.
Half-time:
Lovells 1 City Reserves 0.
Lovells were reduced to ten men when Wright, their goalkeeper, was injured in a collision with Henderson. Henderson rushed the ball past Williams, the deputy goalkeeper, and Exeter ha the monopoly until a surprise long shot from Elwell deceived Holland, giving Lovells a victory they hardly deserved on the run of the play.
