WATFORD 2 EXETER CITY 1.

This was a match with a few spells of excitement and a good deal of reckless and wild kicking. Watford were good value for their win, although the City were handicapped by an injury to Gray, and Dennington played at right back in the second half.

Watford: Hewitt; Brown, Davison; Warner, McBain, Woodward; Chapman, Barnett, James, Wooliscroft, and McWilliams.
City: Holland; Gray, Shanks; Dennington, Mason, McMullan; Armfield, Purcell, Varco, Hemingway, and Doncaster.

Barnett scored for Watford in 37 minutes after a miskick by Shanks had given Chapman a clear field ahead. Hemingway levelled the scores in the second half, and ten minutes from the finish Barnett scored again for Watford. MeWilliams, secured from Celtic on a free transfer, was the best forward on the field.
