Match 41
22nd April 1930
Northampton Town (a)
Northampton Town v Exeter City
TUESDAY, APRIL 22nd 1930.NORTHAMPTON TOWN 2
EXETER CITY 2.
Perfect weather prevailed at the County Cricket Ground, Northampton, on the above date, when Exeter met the Cobblers in the return match. Mason won the toss and Exeter lined up with the sun at their backs. There were about six thousand spectators present when Bowen started the game.
Northampton: Hammond; Anthony and Brett; Allon, Maloney, and Odell; Sissons, Smith, Bowen, Hoten, and Weston.
Exeter City: Holland; Gray and Shanks; Dennington, Mason, and McMullan; Armfield, Purcell, Hemingway, Houghton, and Doncaster.
In striking contract to the match at Exeter on Monday nothing had been scored when the teams left the field at half-time. Holland was given a warm ovation for several difficult saves he had made in the first half. Four goals were shared equally in the second half, Hoten and Bowen for the Cobblers and Hemingway (2) for Exeter being the successful marksmen. Hemingway has thus earned himself the distinction of getting six goals in two matches on successive days against the same opponents, and he is not even a regular centre-forward.
