Half-time: City 1 Orient 0.
Hardly had the game been restarted when Clapton equalised. Edmonds shot from thirty yards' range. Davies failed to meet the ball, which hit the post, and Fletcher turned it into the net.. Exeter's lead was restored by Purcell from Doncaster's pass, and the pressure was maintained, Doncaster sending in a perfect centre which Armfield netted. After twenty minutes Doncaster beat Wood with a low shot, the goalkeeper being slow in getting down to the ball. Doncaster headed a splendid fifth goal for the City ten minutes from the end, and was knocked out in a collision with the burly Clapton goalkeeper, then in the last minute Clarke dribbled through beautifully to score the sixth goal with a flashing drive which gave Wood no chance.
