Middlesbrough moved to the Riverside Stadium in 1995 after leaving their former home of Ayresome Park where it had played since 1903. The current capacity of the ground is 34,742, although there is provisional planning in place to expand the capacity of the stadium to 42,000 if required. In their second season at the Riverside, Middlesbrough were runners-up in both domestic cups but due to a points deduction the club were relegated from the Premier League.
