CITY FADE OUT AFTER PROMISING FIRST HALF
DAVE HALLIDAY NETS THE EQUALISER
Tierney Alone Does Himself Justice
Exeter City 1 Clapton Orient 1.
Saturday, September 29th 1934.
One of the poorest games seen at Exeter for a long time ended in Exeter City being fortunate to share the points with a moderate Clapton Orient side, who, however, did show some better ideas in the second half. The City gained an early lead through Hurst, but eventually faded right out and descended to a very low level after the interval. Tierney was the only Exeter forward to do himself justice, but he was not given the ball often enough. Chesters played well under the handicap of an injured hand, and could not be blamed for the Orient's equalising goal, scored in the second half by Dave Halliday, the Scottish International and the brother of a former Exeter City forward. Clarke captained the City team in the absence of Miller, who is injured.
Exeter City. Chesters; Gray and W.H.Smith; Clarke, Angus, and Lewis; Scott, Wrightson, Hurst, Dudley, and Tierney
Referee:- Mr J.M.Wiltshire, of Sherborne.
