ALDERSHOT 0
EXETER CITY 2.
Exeter City's splendid win by two goals to nil at Aldershot will do the team a lot of good, because it should restore confidence. There was not a weak spot in the eleven, and Webb in particular played a storming game at centre half. He was strong in the tackle, and his resolute work enabled the City to sustain their attacks. Aldershot were beaten at all points, and Exeter, once they had taken the lead, played convincing football. The attendance was 3,000.

Exeter City, striving to make up lost ground in their bid for the championship, achieved a great victory at Aldershot. Football generally was poor, however, in the early part of the game, and at the interval, when neither goal had fallen, there was little to choose between the two sides. In the second half, however, Exeter drew away from the home eleven and finished well ahead. They pressed from the start and Hurst very nearly got through in the first minute. Seven minutes after the resumption Exeter gained the lead. A fast attack was launched on the right, and when Scott centred Robb and Poulter went for the ball together. Poulter hustled the goalkeeper, and when the ball dropped he banged it hard into the net. Encouraged by this success Exeter attacked with refreshing spirit and enthusiasm, and the Aldershot defence wilted under the strain.
A second goal could have materialised when an all-out attack left the home defence spreadeagled, but from a short pass by Houghton the ball was ballooned over the bar by Hurst. Poulter went closer when he ran round Morgan and met a pass from Webb with his head, Robb making a brilliant save.
Robb, who is a former Scottish international goalkeeper, showed his class when he fielded shots from Poulter and Wrightson, and when he fisted over a flying centre from Scott. Renewed and even stronger pressure was mounted by the City, and Houghton should have put the issue beyond all doubt. He received the ball from Hurst well inside the Aldershot penalty area, and with no-one in front of him except for Robb he drove high over the goal. Exeter's second goal, a few minutes before the close, was scored by Clarke with a penalty kick, given against Morgan for hands. Clarke walked to the ball calmly and unconcernedly, and then with a right footed shot crashed it into the net a yard to the goalkeeper's left. EXETER CITY RESERVES 4 LOVELLS ATHLETIC 2.

Southern League Cup
EXETER CITY'S EARLY SET-BACK AGAINST TORQUAY UNITED
The semi final of the Western Section of the Southern League Cup took place at Plainmoor on Wednesday afternoon.
The City Reserves were represented by:- Chesters; M.Lock, Miller; Ditchburn, Childs, Welsby; Gumm, Risdon, Boundy, Whitlow, and Barnes.,
First half play was scrappy, with Exeter having the better of the early exchanges.
Risdon and Boundy went close for Exeter, and subsequently a shot from Boundy was driven straight at Maggs at point-blank range. Then Torquay improved considerably, and after half an hour took the lead through Flavell, who netted from Mills's pass. Flavell later tested Chesters with two strong headers, and in a fast Torquay raid Harker had a shot saved by Chesters. At the other end Maggs ran out to clear from Boundy, who afterwards drove wide of an open goal. Half-time: Torquay Reserves 1 Exeter Reserves 0.
SECOND HALF.
Exeter pressed heavily on the restart, but the Torquay defence covered well. After ten minutes Boundy snapped up a through pass from Childs and went on to beat Maggs with a brilliant drive into the top of the net. After 25 minutes Torquay lost Harker, who was injured in a collision with Childs. Flavell scored direct from the resultant free kick, and Torquay successfully held their lead with ten men. Harker, whose leg was broken, was taken to the Torbay Hospital.
Result:-
Torquay United Reserves 2
City Reserves 1.
