Stamina told at St James's Park, when a Devon County team was beaten 7-2 by Exeter City Reserves after leading early in the second half by 2 1. Tierney and Dryden were outstanding, the former's tricky footwork being delightful to watch.

The manner in which he made one of the Reserves' goals, a piece of intricate dribbling followed by a perfect pass, was worthy of a great player.

Scorers:- Risdon, Hoyle, McArthur (2 each) and McClure, for the City Reserves; Shute and Wakeham for Devon County.
