MILLWALL 1. EXETER CITY 0

Five changes were made by Exeter City in the team which visited Millwall on Thursday, and alterations were enforced in both the defence and the attack. Chesters was preferred to Davies in goal, while at full back Smith was dropped in favour of Miller. In the absence of Clarke, who has a leg injury, Risdon filled the right half position. The forward line was extensively revised, with only Wrightson and John Scott retaining their places.

The game opened with the City advancing on the right. Wrightson worked his way over to the opposite wing, but when he shot Yuill made a great close up save. The City advanced again, this time by means of a fine individual effort by Hurst, who centre, although nicely placed, was headed away by Turnbull before Wrightson could get to the ball. Within five minutes, however, Millwall broke away to take the lead all against the run of the play. Yardley, a strong foraging leader, broke through, and from his pass Hasson headed into the net. When Millwall were given a penalty for hands by a City defender the shot by Alexander was weak and badly directed, and Chesters dived on the ball and stopped it at the foot of a goalpost.
