Match 34
20th February 1935
Exeter City v Millwall

Wednesday, February 20th 1935.

EXETER CITY 5 MILLWALL 0

Southern Section Cup: Third Round

Dryden being unfit, Exeter City played McArthur at outside-left in the Southern Section Cup-tie (third round) at St James's Park on Wednesday afternoon. About two thousand spectators saw the City make an encouraging bid to secure an early goal, but the Millwall defence covered well and Yuill was not called upon to handle.

Millwall made the mistake of trying too much close passing, which got them nowhere against the powerful tackling of Angus and Risdon, with the redoubtable Gray and Miller partnership behind them. The City played an open game, and were rewarded with two goals, both scored by Poulter, in the first half.

A goal by Wrightson shortly after half-time practically settled the fate of Millwall, and Poulter added to his mounting tally of goals with two more in the closing stages.

EXETER CITY CASUALTIES

The Grecians' cartilage casualties are making good progress on the road to recovery. McClure and T.Scott have now left the nursing home, while Clarke and Lewis, who were operated on subsequently, are expected to be out and about very shortly.
