Match 36
2nd March 1935
Luton Town v Exeter City

Saturday, March 2nd 1935.

LUTON TOWN 4 EXETER CITY 0

Brilliant sunshine and springlike weather made for a good "gate" at Kenilworth Road, Luton, and the attendance numbered 6,000. The light new ball and the gusty breeze made things difficult for the players in the early stages, and neither goalkeeper had to handle the ball in the first five minutes.

Early raids by Exeter nearly brought success, Wrightson's header only just being saved by Coen. Luton's forwards combined cleverly, but Exeter had an unlucky set-back in the twelfth minute, when the referee awarded a penalty against Miller for fouling Bell. Ball, who took the penalty, scored with a well directed shot. Exeter were aggressive for a spell, and Coen saved at full length from Scott. Stephenson scored a second goal for Luton, who were lucky to have such a commanding lead. Exeter resumed the aggressive in the second half, and Coen was in action time after time from Poulter and the other forwards. Luton eventually made headway and set up a real attack, during the course of which Ball netted and Bell struck the bar. The City fought back and Luton packed their goal. In the last minute a brilliant run and centre by Stephenson gave Ball his third and Luton's fourth goal.
