Wednesday, March 27th 1935.
BRISTOL ROVERS V EXETER CITY. Southern Section Cup.

Bristol Rovers and Exeter City both made changes in the semi final of the Third Division (Southern Section) Cup at Eastville. Exeter experimented with Hurst at inside-left, and brought Dryden back to the left wing position, while the Rovers, strengthened by the return of Wallington, dropped Wilson.

About 2,000 spectators saw the Rovers clearly on the attack, and a corner kick was accurately placed by McNestry. It was blocked by Webb, but the ball went to McArthur, who headed just over the bar. Chesters made a sensational clearance from a shot by Prout, leaping across his goal to turn the ball on to a post, and whilst falling, catching the rebound. Chesters next made an equally brilliant save from McArthur, catching the ball as cleanly as a cricketer fields a cricket ball. Prout opened the scoring, driving the ball hard into the net from McNestry's flag kick, but the City equalised direct from the kick off by means of a lightning left wing attack and a final shot from Poulter. Not a Bristol player touched the ball from Poulter kicking off until it was in the net. McNestry got Bristol's winning goal in the second half. Ill-feeling crept into the game towards the close and Scott and Donald were cautioned by the referee.
