Match 41
31st March 1934
Exeter City v Swindon Town

Saturday, March 31st 1934.

EXETER CITY 2 SWINDON TOWN 2.

Injury compelled Exeter City to make one alteration in their team to oppose Swindon Town at St James's Park this afternoon. Fred Whitlow, who suffered from a recurrence of thigh strain at Eastville in the Good Friday match with Bristol Rovers, was unfit, and in his absence Risdon, the local youth, was selected. The weather could not have been better, and there was a large crowd in attendance, including a contingent from Swindon. About 8,000 spectators saw Clarke win the toss, and Swindon, whose normal colours are red but who today wore white, kicked off facing the sun.

Exeter City. Davies; Gray and Miller; Clarke, Webb, and Angus; Scott, Risdon, Hurst, Wrightson, and J.Barnes.

Swindon Town. Briggs; Duckworth and Herod; Harris, Lambie, and Cousins; Blakemore, Helsby, Armstrong, Pisher, and Flanagan.

Referee:- Mr J. M. Wiltshire, of Sherborne.

Swindon deserved their point from this afternoon's encounter with the Grecians at St James's Park. While Exeter were the better team in the first half the Railwaymen, with several reserves, were definitely superior after the interval, when the home half-backs fell away badly, apart from Angus. Hurst gave Exeter the lead in the first half, but this was lost five minutes after the interval when Blakemore scored. Goals were later obtained by Risdon and Fisher. Miller fell heavily in a tussle with Armstrong and is suffering from a badly bruised shoulder. It is very doubtful that he will be fit for Monday's match.
