SATURDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER

SCUNTHORPE UNITED 5
EXETER CITY 4

GIVE-AWAY BY CITY

Scunthorpe 5, Exeter 4

EXETER City made a perfect start at Scunthorpe getting a goal within seven minutes from full back Chris Vinnicombe. Within five minutes Steve Neville had added a second. But after that it was a different story and Exeter left Glandford Park wondering what had gone wrong. They had been beaten 5-4 after looking like coasting home.

Sure it was a thriller of a match but that was no consolation to Exeter after their sparkling opening. Striker Mark Lillis brought about Scunthorpe's revival heading home their first after 37 minutes. Then Ian Hamilton crashed in the equaliser after City had failed to clear a cross from the right.

Another right wing cross saw Lillis grab a second goal and while Dryden brought City back on level terms in the 69th minute, Scunthorpe had that look of winners. They scored twice within a minute.

City managed to reduce the arrears when Neville forced the ball through... but that was a last gasp effort. There was no time to salvage a point.
