9th October 1979
Wimbledon (a)

Wimbledon 2-2 ECFC

Scorers: Bowker, Neville (pen)

Attendance: 2,999

A first ever league trip to Plough Lane, home of Wimbledon, was made by Exeter City. The Grecians had played there before, but only in a pre-season friendly which ended in a 2-0 defeat. An unchanged City side made the trip, having beaten Blackpool 1-0 at St. James Park three days earlier. Keith Bowker and Steve Neville from the penalty spot gave the City a share of the league points, with Mark Dziadulewicz and John Leslie replying for the Dons before an attendance of 2,999, Leslie was a player who Exeter tried to sign but without success. Wimbledon were to end the season in bottom spot and were duly relegated to the Fourth Division. The draw at Wimbledon was in the middle of a four match unbeaten run for the Grecians, the other three matches all ending in victory, and pushing the side up into fourteenth place in the Third Division
