Match 26
2nd December 1989
Maidstone United (a)
Maidstone United 1-0 ECFC
Attendance: 1650
In between the two cup ties at Watling Street Can F.A Cup review will appear in our next issue), we faced the Fourth Division's form side, Maidstone United at their 'home ground'. There was some doubt that the game would go ahead with a thick fog enveloping the town of Dartford which only cleared about an hour before kick off. The game itself was rubbish, being decided by a neat header by United's centre forward, Mark Gall. He didn't look too impressive in the cup encounters but he ran the show in this game, virtually every dangerous move involved him in some way. City's main man was substitute Mark Cooper, even hitting a shot of Danny Bailey power in the closing stages.
The attendance was a disgrace even allowing for the weather. 1,600 turned up, including 200 City fans who by the following had seen their side play away at the same ground three times Only Saturday in four weeks.
