Match 23
10th November 1979
Barnsley (a)
Hunter horror
Barnsley 2, Exeter City 2
Exeter Scorers: Hunter (og), Pearson
FORMER Bristol favourite Norman Hunter found himself the villain of the piece with his new club Barnsley against Exeter. For he scored an uncharacteristic own goal to trigger a spirited fight-back which gave Exeter a share of the points.
Hunter's gritty comeback at 36 after a second Achilles tendon operation which might have finished many younger players, has already established him with the Oakwell fans, and he says he is still enjoying his football.
Saturday's bloomer came 20 minutes from the end after Barnsley had been given a two goal lead by Glavin. Hunter racing back steered a Bowker cross into his own net. Ian Pearson equalised for City three minutes later.
