CLAPTON ORIENT Hillam J. Taylor Herod H.Taylor Affleck Heinemann McCombe Fletcher Crawford Smith Codling
The City were a goal down within a minute of the start, Fletcher receiving from a throw-in and scoring with a long oblique drive which hit Brown's foot and rebounded into the net, Chesters being
completely deceived by the ball's change of direction. Fifteen minutes before half-time they increased their lead. Again Fletcher was the scorer, this time with a flashing shot from ten yards which Chesters vainly tried to stop. For some time in the second half Exeter showed some promise of an improvement, but the forward line could not settle down. Williams suffered from lack of adequate support, and the inability of his inside men to provide the right sort of passes. Young met with an injury after 21 minutes, and after going on the right wing for a quarter of an hour finally had to retire. Clapton Orient dominated the remainder of the game, and Chesters played a magnificent game to prevent further scoring.

TUNBRIDGE WELLS 6
CITY RESERVES 0
Playing their first match on their new pitch Tunbridge Wells beat Exeter City Reserves by six clear goals. Iles and Goddard scored for the Rangers in the first half. Iles completed his "hat-trick" with two further goals after the inter val, and Dougan scored twice. The City Reserves were generally outplayed, but were unfortunate to lose Johnson with an injured foot shortly after half-time.
EXMOUTH TOWN 2
EXETER CITY RESERVES 3
A strong South-westerly wind played havoc with the ball in the meeting of Exmouth Town and the City Reserves at Exmouth on Monday evening. O'Hara opened the scoring for the Reserves, who had the advantage of the wind in the first half, and Smeath added a second goal. Flood, the Exmouth outside-left, injured his leg five minutes before the interval, and was absent for practically the whole of the second half. Wakeham scored for Exmouth and Smeath for Exeter just before half-time. Exmouth's second goal was scored by J.Pope in the second half.
- EXETER CITY'S NEW PLAYER Alfred Stanley Thompson, an experienced outside right, has joined Exeter City from Hartlepools United. He played regularly for that club last season, scoring 11 goals in 34 League (Northern Section) appearances. Thompson previously spent four seasons with Brighton and Hove when he frequently partnered Farrell on the right wing, and before that he was with Durham City. He is 5ft 5ins tall and weighs 10st 71b.
