LUTON TOWN
After eight minutes of quiet play Ball scored for Luton. The City forwards showed improved form, and carried out several fine moves, but all were wasted. One priceless opportunity of levelling the score was missed by Scott, who was too slow to reach the ball as it travelled slowly across the Luton goal line with Coen and the backs hopelessly out of position. However, Ball did much the same thing at the other end in one of Luton's sweeping raids. Half-time: City 0 Luton 1. Luton were heavily aggressive at the restart but after eleven minutes Ebdon ran through to score for Exeter. Both goals had narrow escapes before the next and last score, Crompton putting through for Luton. Exeter retaliated with several sharp raids in which Hoyle was always conspicuous, but the Luton defence never loosened its grip. Two men stood out in the City side. They were Robinson, a sheet anchor in defence, and McLean, who revealed constructive ideas far and away in advance of his colleagues. But McLean's passes were not always successful because the other forwards did not anticipate them quickly enough.
