Match 10
10th October 1936
Aldershot v ECFC

Southern League
Exeter City Reserves v Aldershot Reserves

Saturday, October 10th.
ALDERSHOT 1 EXETER CITY 1.

At St James's Park in cool and cloudy weather Exeter City took an early lead, Williams scoring from Keane's pass after 4 minutes. The City were the faster and more accomplished side, their long kicking and passing with a strong following wind giving them the advantage in the first half. Aldershot were forced into long periods of defence, but luckily for them Robb was in his very best form. The veteran goalkeeper's saves from shots by Williams and Scott were brilliant. Aldershot had most of the play after changing ends but they lacked method and speed. Many free kicks were given against Exeter, and from one of these Walls, a terrific shot with a dead ball, equalised from 25 yards. Play consisted mostly of long kicks and fast following up. There were plenty of thrills but little combined football.

City:- Chesters; Brown, Boyle; Clarke, Bamsey, Shadwell; C. Smith, Scott, Williams, McGill, Keane.
Aldershot:- Robb; Wade, Summerbee; Diaper, Robson, Gebbie; Walls, Thomas, Ray, Dixon, Proud.
Referee:- Mr E.W. Vokes, of Bath. Attendance 4,000.

Southern League
CITY RESERVES 1
ALDERSHOT RESERVES 2.

Playing against a strong wind the City Reserves quickly settled down and delighted a crowd of 1,000 with attractive forward play.

Aldershot:- Wright; Sheppard, Williams; Buller, Gerrard, Hughes; Gallantree, Clarke, Merrett, Temple, Farmer.
Exeter City:- Tierney; Mellish, Angus; Coles, Hobbs, Burke; Thompson, Pollard, Ebdon, Pope, Chudleigh.

A quarter of an hour from the start Exeter deservedly gained the lead, Ebdon easily beating Wright from short range after dribbling round Gerrard. Aldershot had more of the play towards the interval, but Merrett and Gallantree each shot yards wide. Merrett and Farmer scored for Aldershot in the second half.
