Match 12

Newport County (a)
Southern League
Margate (h)
Saturday, October 24th.
NEWPORT COUNTY 2
EXETER CITY 0.
Exeter City earned distinction at Somerton Park this afternoon, when they were beaten by Newport County. It was distinction of the wrong sort, the Grecians being the only side to be conquered by Newport this season. L.Carr, of Liverpool, was transferred to Newport on Thursday and partnered Lowry at outside left. The recent activities of Newport in the transfer market was reflected in the increased attendance, which was between eleven and twelve thousand.

EXETER CITY
The experiment of playing Clarke at centre half was not altogether a success. Although he worked without sparing himself a fraction, he was prone to wander too far up the field, thus creating a gap in the defence which Newport exploited in the second half. Newport's goals were scored by Carr direct from a free kick in the first half, and Sullivan after the interval.
