Match 19

FA Cup 1st Round
Folkestone (h)
Exeter and District League
Budleigh Salterton (a)
Saturday, November 28th.F.A.CUP FIRST ROUND: CITY V FOLKESTONE.
Exeter City are in the second round. They defeated a plucky and at times clever Folkestone team by three clear goals this afternoon, at St James's Park, but not until the second half were they able to claim any measure of superiority. In fact Folkestone were the better side before the interval, and if they had scored during this period Exeter's task might have been a hard one indeed. Exeter were a long time getting into their stride, but in the last half an hour they overran the opposition. Clarke, Keane, Williams, and Boyle were outstanding in the City ranks, whilst Gibbs was the most impressive player for Folkestone. The attendance was 6,031.

FOLKESTONE
Ground and weather conditions were well-nigh perfect. Using speedy first-time methods Folkestone were dangerous at the start, Tierney bringing off a marvellous one-handed save from Jones. Williams got through at the other end but struck the upright with his shot. Although not the better side the City took the lead after 35 minutes when Williams volleyed home a centre from Johnson. The issue remained in doubt until fifteen minutes from the finish, when Keane snapped up a centre from Shadwell and beat Hindley with a well-directed shot. Two minutes from time Keane scored again.
Result:- Exeter City 3 Folkestone 0.
