Match 20
5th December 1936
Bristol Rovers v ECFC

Saturday, December 5th.
BRISTOL ROVERS 4
EXETER CITY 2.

A bustling Bristol Rovers team beat Exeter City by 4 goals to 2 at Eastville this afternoon. Exeter's play was slow and laboured, and altogether they gave a very uninspiring display. Williams tried hard but was not well supported, and Keane was the best of the Exeter forwards. The City's half backs and backs were not up to their usual standard, and Tierney could not be blamed for any of the shots that beat him. Houghton was not playing for Bristol Rovers because of a pulled thigh muscle.

Harris gave the Rovers the lead after ten minutes. As the half-time interval approached Exeter made several attacks on the right, and in one of them Scott sent in a high centre which Ellis missed, and Williams was on hand to scoop the ball into the net. Less than one minute later Harris scored for the Rovers, although he appeared to be offside when he headed Tidman's centre into the Exeter net. Dodgin and Mills increased Bristol's lead in the second half, and with practically the last kick of the match Williams drove a ball from Keane past Ellis with a swift and well directed shot.

Exeter City Reserves, for whom Ebdon scored the fifth goal, lined up as follows:- Chesters; Brown and Mellish; Pollard, Hobbs, and Young; F.Smith, C. Smith, Johnson, Ebdon, and Urmson.
