Although weather conditions were ideal at Swindon there were not more than 6,000 present with the teams took the field. Bussey and Owen made their first appearances for the Grecians, and Jack Angus, captaining the side for the first time, began well by winning the toss.

EXETER CITY
With ten minutes of the first half remaining Cookson gave Swindon the lead, firing the ball into the net with a spectacular volley from Hetherington's centre. After Cookson had scored again in the second half Williams got a goal for Exeter, but Swindon had the last word when Cookson took a pass from Hetherington and beat Tierney for the third time.
CITY RESERVES 5 FOLKESTONE 3.
In a thrilling Southern League match at St James's Park the City Reserves conquered Folkestone, who were beaten by Exeter "Chiefs" in the first round of the F. A. Cup.
Goals by Urmson and Ebdon gave Exeter a useful lead by half-time, but this was wiped out early in the second half when first Redfern and then Patrick scored for the visitors. F.Smith then scored twice for Exeter, but Folkestone were not to be denied so easily, and after a series of fast and dangerous attacks Caiels obtained their third goal. Johnson finally settled things when he beat Hindley with a great shot from 30 yards.
