Boxing Day
EXETER CITY v. NOTTS COUNTY
Great disappointment was felt by West-country soccer enthusiasts when it was learned that Hugh Gallacher was not included in the Notts County eleven at St James's Park on Boxing Day. The official explanation for the "wee Scot's" absence was that he was having to rest on account of a slight injury. His place was taken by Mardon, who has frequently deputised for Gallacher this season.

Johnson led the City attack with Williams at inside left. Stimpson was replaced by Brown and Angus by Hobbs. Eleven thousand saw the Grecians make a dashing start, and a series of right wing attacks threatened danger to the County defence. Three times in as many minutes Keane landed the ball right in front of the County goal, but on each occasion the Exeter forwards were crowded out.
Hobbs saved a dangerous situation for Exeter when he booted behind the line to give a corner with the defence in a tangle, but from the flag kick, accurately placed by Rickards, Notts took the lead, Fallon heading low into the net as Tierney dived in vain to save. Exeter's failure to cover up created big gaps in defence, and not long afterwards the County scored again. A pass down the middle found Chalmers unmarked, and whilst Exeter appealed for offside Chalmers advanced with the ball, drew Tierney out and scored at the second attempt, his first shot having struck the goalkeeper's legs. In the second half Ferguson scored for Notts County, and Williams for the City. That the better side won no-one will deny. The County were vastly superior, especially before the interval, when their forwards even without Gallacher repeatedly riddled an unsteady City defence.
Result:-
Exeter City 1 Notts County 3.
Southern League
TORQUAY UNITED RESERVES 1
EXETER CITY RESERVES 1.
Southern League points were shared by Torquay and Exeter Reserves before a large Boxing Day crowd at Plainmoor. The game opened in lively fashion, and within a few minutes the first goal was scored, C.Johnson coming in from the right wing to give Torquay the lead. Torquay attacked strongly with some very good combined football, C.Johnson putting Exeter's goal in danger several times. Exeter eventually got away and Ebdon levelled the scores. Torquay then took charge and did most of the attacking, but Bamsey and the other Exeter defenders were in good form. The game was more evenly fought out in the second half. During the last quarter of an hour Exeter attacked keenly, but their efforts were baulked by Joslin, the United goalkeeper.
