Honours To Defenders
Exeter Attacks Repulsed Repeatedly
Exeter City Reserves and Guildford shared the points in a Southern League match at St. James's Park, each side scoring once.
Honours went to the visiting defenders, who were unyielding to frequent pressure during the second half. Guildford obtained an early first-half goal through Bowater, and they were as dangerous as the City to the interval. McGill equalized within a few minutes of the resumption, and subsequent play was in favour of the home team. In his unaccustomed position of right-back Johnson was a sound worker, and with Bamsey and Boyle he provided safe cover for Tierney.
City Reserves:- Tierney; Johnson, Boyle; Pollard, Bamsey, Barnes; C. Smith, Scott, Ebdon, McGill, and Keane.
Guildford: Briggs; Robinson, Oliver; Jones, Leslie, McFarlane; Maycock, McPheat, Iles, Hunter, and Bowater.
