Six minutes from the finish Exeter City looked like saving a point at the Goldstone Road ground, Brighton. At that stage they were drawing, one goal apiece. But then the home side scored twice to dramatically pull the game out of the fire. Chesters acquitted himself brilliantly, and so did Crompton and Gray. In the forward lines, however, the advantage undoubtedly rested with Brighton, and because of this superiority the home side deserved their victory. The scorers in the first half were Farrell and Hurst. The two late Brighton goals were obtained by Stephens.

EXETER CITY RESERVES 5
BARNSTAPLE 1.

At half-time the score was 2-1, McArthur and Pope having got two goals for the City and Green one for Barnstaple. Goals were added after the interval by May (1) and McArthur (2), and Barum retired a well beaten team.
